Arc de triomphe
50 high 45 meters wide, the Arc de Triomphe is located on Place de l’Etoile at the end of the famous Avenue des Champs-Elysees. Built in honor of the French armies and their victories on the orders of Napoleon I in 1806, the monument has witnessed major milestones in the history of France. Since 1920, the remains of the unknown soldier has rested at the foot of the Arc and a flame burns in his honour. The Arc de Triomphe is now the patriotic symbol of the nation.
